The brand Xiaomi, after a hard journey, has introduced its HyperOS skin for Android devices. But the brand is following the vice-versa scheme- on one side, it delivers the new HyperOS skin, and on the other, it is disabling the option to unlock the bootloader. Apart from this, it is also taking away system updates if the skin is installed.
HyperOS appears to be similar to Xiaomi’s previous MIUI, but the brand has confirmed that the change has arrived along with a policy update. Now Xiaomi, alongside HyperOS, will permit users to unlock the bootloader on their Android smartphones. However, this is not a change, as Xiaomi has required users to apply to unlock their bootloader previously.
Noticeably, back in 2016, the brand retroactively locked bootloaders and introduced a waiting process for getting permission. At the moment, brand users need to use a Xiaomi tool and an account to unlock their bootloader.
Because of this change, Xiaomi explained that locking down the bootloader just protects the smartphone. The users who want to unlock their bootloader will have to ask for permission to do so.
Xiaomi Says;
“To protect the device’s security, avoid data leakage, and provide users with a more secure and stable user experience, bootloader unlocking will be disabled by default on Xiaomi HyperOS.”
The brand Xiaomi has also confirmed that bootloader unlocking will, as expected, be disabled out of the box on HyperOS smartphones. The company disclosed the bearing in an email to Android Authority’s questions.
The other noticeable change here is that, now, the company will also drop support of Android updates for gadgets with an unlocked bootloader. This means that the users who will use an unlocked bootloader will no longer get any kind of HyperOS updates while the device is unlocked. Apart from this, this new change will also apply whenever looking at an update from MIUI to HyperOS, and this policy is for all devices, even outside of China.
The brand has introduced HyperOS along with the Xiaomi 14 series, and it is expected that it will expand this new update to the rest of the company’s Android series in the months to come.
