Recently, WhatsApp Dev gave the good news of its exclusive Digital Payment feature named WhatsApp Pay to Indian users.
Digital payments have risen as an essential tool for encouraging financial inclusion because it lowers the cost of providing financial services to poor people and increases the safety and convenience of using savings, payments, and insurance products.

How to use WhatsApp Pay: Add a bank account?
An active account at an Indian bank that supports UPI (Unified Payment Interface). The primary phone number associated with this bank account must match the phone number of your WhatsApp account.
Steps:
- Open WhatsApp
- Tap on More options on three dots on the top right corner
- Tap on Settings > Payments > Add new account.
- Tap Accept and Continue to accept our Payments Terms and Privacy Policy.
- From the list of banks, tap the name of your bank.
- Tap Verify via SMS > Allow. If WhatsApp already has permission to make and manage phone calls, you won’t need to grant permission.
- Tap the bank account you want to add to send and receive payments with WhatsApp.
- Tap Done.
Note:
- To send money, the user will also need to verify the last 6 digits of your debit card and the expiration date.
- The user will only have to accept the Payments Terms and Privacy Policy during your initial bank set up.
- If the user doesn’t see his bank listed, it may not be supported.
WhatsApp payments use UPI and support most major banks. The phone number associated with your WhatsApp account is used to identify your bank account information to enable payments.
