OnePlus ends Software support for OnePlus 6 & 6t flagship phones

OnePlus ends Software Support for these two older flagship phones – The OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T have received their final security update as OnePlus ends support for these two smartphones after over three years. OnePlus has out the November 2021 security update on OxygenOS 11.1.2.2 for both smartphones and will no longer offer support to them.

The OnePlus 6 debuted in May 2018 while the OnePlus 6T was launched in October 2018. Based on the OnePlus software maintenance schedule, the OS updates should have ended in August 2021 and security updates in November 2021.

While OnePlus is ending security updates in November 2021, it went beyond its promised OS update schedule to roll out the Android 11 update for the OnePlus 6 and 6T in August last year. On the whole, the OnePlus 6 and 6T have received three major OS updates – Android 8.0 Oreo, Android 9.0 Pie, and Android 11 finally.

After 3 major updates and more than 3 years of updates, around 60 Closed Beta builds and over 30 Open Beta builds it’s now time to close a chapter and announce the end of OnePlus 6 and 6T official software support.

Next in line to reach the end of life is the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro – OnePlus has promised to roll out the Android 12 update for both smartphones sometime this year, so it will still be a while before the OnePlus drops support for them.
