Google rolls out bandwidth data record for video meetings in Workspace

Google is releasing a new tool for Workspace admins who use Google Meet to communicate with employees. Admins may now get a record of participant bandwidth during meetings as of today.

So, if anyone is trying to escape out of a meeting early by pretending to have a terrible connection, they can expect to be called out.

How does the Google Workspace bandwidth data record work?

Google Workspace plans to provide a custom email for business and include collaboration tools like Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Chat, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites, and more. The new bandwidth data record feature is especially helpful for video meetings in Meet, where admins can monitor better on their employees or colleagues.

Administrators will be able to view a live graph of meeting participants, which will display both the actually utilized bandwidth and the estimated total bandwidth. Having access to this information may make troubleshooting connection difficulties on calls easier.

As a result, your manager will most likely notice if you’re faking a terrible connection. The data appears to be rather comprehensive, with the ability to hover over the graph to view actual bandwidth measurements (both up and down) and timestamps. However, in meetings with hundreds of people, this UI may appear a little crowded.

Unlike most new Workspace features, this one will be available immediately. The bandwidth monitoring tools are now available in the administration panel.

Admins can find it under Apps > Google Workspace > Google Meet > Meet quality tool. It will surely be a handy tool for all users increasing the efficiency and productivity of the video meetings.
