Samsung LPDDR5X DRAM confirmed to use with Qualcomm Snapdragon mobiles

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has verified Samsung’s 14-nanometer (nm) based 16-gigabit (Gb) Low Power Double Data Rate 5X (LPDDR5X) DRAM for usage on Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon mobile platforms.

Samsung’s LPDDR5X DRAM, with a 1.2x processing speed and 20% less power consumption, will improve the performance of ultra-high-resolution video recording and AI capabilities in next-generation flagships.

The LPDDR5X solution will expand the usage of high-performance, low-power memory beyond traditional mobile applications and into automobiles and data centers.

Samsung LPDDR5X DRAM specifications and other details

Samsung has worked closely with Qualcomm Technologies to improve its 7.5 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) LPDDR5X for usage with Snapdragon mobile platforms since releasing the industry’s first 14nm-based LPDDR5X DRAM last November.

Specs

Samsung’s LPDDR5X, which is about 1.2 times faster than the 6.4Gbps LPDDR5 used in today’s premium smartphones, is expected to improve the performance of ultra-high-resolution video recording as well as AI features like voice recognition, image recognition, and natural language processing in next-generation smartphones. Furthermore, by utilizing innovative circuit designs as well as dynamic voltage control.
