Oppo’s ColorOS overlay now includes a valuable new tool for detecting hidden cameras. It’s geared for regular travelers who may wish to examine their hotel rooms for hidden cameras.
However, it may be beneficial to look for cameras in changing rooms, spas, and other areas where your privacy may be jeopardized. This article shares all the details of the new spy or hidden camera finder feature updated in Oppo ColorOS.
The new hidden camera finder feature in ColorOS explained
For the time being, the Oppo Find X5 and Find X5 Pro are the only devices that support the concealed camera function. ColorOS 12.1 is also required for it to operate, but you don’t have to worry about that since the new flagships come with the most up-to-date software right out of the box. Oppo said the functionality will be available on additional smartphones in the near future.
Meanwhile, owners of the Find X5 series must download the Hidden Camera Detection software from the Oppo App Market. After installation, the software will prompt users to disable their phone’s Wi-Fi and hotspot before searching for hidden cameras.
The software will also prompt users to turn off and on the room lights, potentially to detect infrared light, which many Wi-Fi cameras utilize for night vision.

When a spy camera is spotted, the software instructs users to play hot and cold in order to locate the concealed device.
When the phone is near enough to the hidden camera, the app will notify you. Users may then just search around the restricted area for the gadget.
However, Oppo’s Hidden Camera Detection software seems to be a China-only release for the time being.
