Google is reportedly working on the upcoming ‘Tuscany’ face unlock feature for the Pixel 6 series that might arrive by the next feature drop

Many people were startled to find that Google’s latest flagship phones, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, did not include Face Unlock. According to various sources, Google had planned to include the feature on the Pixel 6 series but decided against it at the last minute.

Late last year, we learned that Google hadn’t given up on Face Unlocking altogether and that it may find its way to the Google Pixel 6 Pro through a software update. While we have yet to see that happen, a recent analysis says that there is still hope.

Face Unlock feature might arrive by the next feature drop in the Pixel 6 series

Google is still working on bringing Face Unlocking to the Pixel 6 series, according to Developer Freak07. They discovered a new update linked to the feature in the PowerHAL config file when searching through the latest Android 12 QRP3 Beta 1.1 release.

Freak07 observes that Google typically does not publish device tree updates of developer previews or beta versions to Git. This means that Google is still working on Face Unlock and that it may find its way to the Pixel 6 Pro via a future software update. However, whether or not this is the case remains to be seen.
