Samsung will not add the in-display fingerprint sensor on Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4

Today everyone has smartphones and to keep their data safe everyone keeps them locked for security purposes so that no unauthorized person can use them which is also true. Due to this, today every company in the mobile industry is providing different types of locks for personal or professional data security of users, in which biometric lock is the most used. If seen, fingerprint ID is more popular in biometric locks as well, as they can’t be leaked. Therefore both optical and ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensors are found in modern smartphones.

Despite the significant advantages of an in-display fingerprint sensor, Samsung will not be loading its next foldable smartphone model with it. Let’s know why?

According to some reports, earlier the company had talked about adopting in-display fingerprint recognition technology for Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 but if we look at the company’s statement recently, it will no longer use it.

But if some information is to be believed, Samsung will install an in-display fingerprint sensor in its next foldable model, based on a patent filed by the company with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

Here, Patent documents show a form that performs fingerprint recognition when the device screen is folded or unfolded. In other words, when the device is folded up, a fingerprint sensor is placed at the bottom center and when unfolded, another fingerprint sensor is placed at the bottom left. A printed circuit board (PCB) with two sensors connects them to the main screen. Through this, when the device is folded, fingerprint recognition can also be done through the outer cover display.

Although, the fourth-generation foldable model will be unlocked via a fingerprint recognition module that integrates with the physical power button on the side of the foldable model when folded.

Samsung Electronics has decided to retain the existing unlocking method considering it more beneficial to unlock the foldable device in the user experience. Previously, Samsung Electronics made good use of the fact that people can use Samsung Pay services with the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s cover display without the hassle of opening its screen by placing a fingerprint sensor on a side of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 as a marketing point.
