Nothing Phone (1): Here’s a detail you don’t know yet

The Nothing phone (1) will be launch in July, with the intention of revolutionizing the world of Android phones. The Nothing tech startup, founded by former OnePlus CEO Carl Pei, has already introduced the Nothing Ear (1) earphones and expects to release its first smartphone in the upcoming days.

Updates

Nothing Phnoe (1) starred in a sort of premiere in Basel, where he showed himself once again from the back profile. The short videos you find in the gallery below show what we didn’t know yet: the back of the smartphone features flashes, both around the photo module and on the right side.

From the images we understand that these are white LED strips, consistent with the color hue of the back of the smartphone. It’s currently unclear when LEDs will go live, but we can expect lighting features linked to notifications calls, a bit like we used to front LEDs on smartphones a few years ago.

We remind you that the official launch is to take place on July 12th. Keep following us to stay up to date on rumors that will emerge upstream of the presentation.

Nothing wants to build a flexible Android ecosystem with the visionaries of the society

Nothing, Carl Pei’s tech company, has piqued the curiosity of many Android aficionados. Pei was essential in popularising the OnePlus brand in the West and has already received a large sum of money from venture investors and the Android community. Without counting venture capitalists, 25 thousand people have invested $63 million in Nothing thus far.

Having clear visions in mind, Carl Pei wants to build an ecosystem of Android users and has already started the phenomenon by launching its very first Nothing Ear (1) Buds.

According to a recent Nothing leak, Pei demonstrated a prototype of a Nothing phone at Mobile World Congress 2022, with the same “elements of transparency” and design style as the Nothing earbuds. Hence, one might conclude the designs of Nothing Phone 1 from that of the design of the earbuds.

Regarding the chipset information, on a 1on1 conversation with tech YouTuber Technical Guruji, Carl Pei has confirmed that Nothing is going solely with Qualcomm. Pei stated:

“Qualcomm is the premier choice when it comes to platforms for smartphones.” Pei further added that it will offer both hardware and software level integration that will “make the entire interconnected experience really well”

During the 1on1 conversation, Pei added that they focused on building the hardware together with the software. “We try to make every single touchpoint that a consumer can interact with us aligned” Carl also stated that they purely want to stick to Stock Android regarding the OS of Nothing.

Regarding updates, Carl stated that they will be giving Nothing users three years of Android updates and four years of security updates. While it may sound a bit far-fetched, Nothing would also be offering a new car widget for Tesla.

A grainy photo of Pei exchanging a phone with a Qualcomm executive emerged during MWC. It contained a square camera module but was otherwise concealed by a casing, and there’s no certainty that this prototype will resemble the final model. However, we do know that Nothing and Qualcomm have collaborated on future products, so it makes sense for Pei to showcase their work with a partner.

Regarding the design, as known so far, the smartphone will have a transparent finish and wireless charging support as well. The OS will include “stripped-down, simple animations” as well as “bespoke fonts, colours, and graphical components that together reflect our distinct visual language.”

The dot-matrix font displayed, also demonstrates its simplicity. According to Ben Geskin, here is a concept design for the device:

It will also contain one-of-a-kind features, such as a voice recording logo designed like an analog tape recorder that you can swipe with your finger to rewind, fast forward, or alter playback speed. It will also feature a distinct sound design that includes “raw, technical noises” influenced by “morse code, oscillators, and digital timepieces.” Without a doubt, this phone will feature some distinctive notification bells and ringtones.

According to popular tech enthusiasts, this might also be the ‘Apple Killer’. It might beat Apple in its seamless experience of device usage and will also not force users to connect devices only with their parent company. It will offer an ‘Open Ecosystem’.

Although there has been no authentic information regarding the pricing of Nothing Phone 1, as Pei stated, the device will be launched by summer 2022.
