Google Meet New Background Customization Feature, Here’s How To Use It

Google recently introduced several new customization features for Google Meet background on the web by implementing a new update. After installing this update, you can quickly access more background personalization functions during meetings.

According to information, the US tech giant is rolling out new features for those using Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) to join Google Meet meetings. Users can now use background blur and lighting adjustments and more customization like immersive backgrounds or fun filters to bring more fun to their meetings and use reframing options to improve visibility.

To access new background customization features in Google Meet on the web, hovering the mouse on top of your own video feed lets you access video effects such as immersive backgrounds or fun filters to bring more fun to your meetings.

How To Background Customizations Feature On Google Meet

  • First, hover over the top of your video feed. Tap on the three-dot dots for More options. 
  • Tab on the Reframe 
  • Then Tap On the effect menu button to add a virtual effect.
  • On the right side of the desktop, you will see all the background blur and lighting adjustments and more customization, like immersive backgrounds.

Google Meet New Features:

Background Blur: It will intelligently isolate you from the background, blurring your surroundings while keeping you clear and focused.

Light adjustment: It automatically detects when you are under-exposed and increases brightness to improve your visibility. Note that both features will only take effect when you join the call; they cannot be previewed in the Greenroom.

Notable, this reframing feature is only available to Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, Teaching & Learning Upgrade, and Workspace Individual customers. This feature is also available to Google One customers with 2TB or more storage space.
