Nokia Introduces On-demand 5G Network Slicing For Android 14

On June 15, Nokia Mobile successfully trialed an innovative feature that enables Android smartphone users to purchase and activate network slices on-demand slice on-demand in real-time, boosting network performance from their operator. This feature enables operators to build new 5G services on Nokia’s 5G network based on Android 14 release devices and new network slicing capabilities.

According to the information, the move will be available to Android 14 users, allowing users to enhance their experience across a wide range of applications such as gaming, high-quality streaming, broadcasting, and social media.

According to the report, the test took place at Nokia’s Network Slicing Development Center in Tampere, Finland, using Nokia’s end-to-end slicing product portfolio, which includes its IMPACT entitlement and policy control servers and UE Route Selection Policy (URSP) technology implemented in Android 14

These new technologies enhance the customer experience by allowing network slices to be tailored to support specific use cases and different types of applications based on network performance, quality, traffic routing, latency, and security.

In addition, Nokia’s network-slicing solution supports all 4G and 5G devices, enabling mobile operators to utilize a vast device ecosystem as well as existing network assets such as spectrum and coverage.

Head of Strategy and Technology at Nokia Mobile Networks, Ari Kynäslahti, said: “This trial of the on-demand slicing solution for Android smartphone users is yet another step in our desire to support new monetization opportunities for our operator partners. For mobile operators, slicing unlocks new 5G business opportunities with an opportunity to provide premium services and enhanced customer experience.”
