Rumour: Xiaomi Is Working On New OS MIOS

A new rumor has hit the web again, reviving an old rumor about Xiaomi working a new operating system called MIOS, which will succeed MIUI. This information was first revealed in November 2013, but there has yet to be confirmation from Xiaomi. MIUI is a mobile UI (user interface) developed and maintained by Xiaomi specifically for its smartphones. MIUI is based on the Android OS and serves as a base for other operating systems made by Xiaomi: MIUI for POCO, MIUI for Pad, MIUI for Watch, and MIUI for TV.

Nowadays, some company insiders have started posting a screenshot of the “About” screen on Twitter, which reveals the MIOS logo. This leak has piqued the interest of many, even though it may seem fake. Also, some solid reasons exist to believe that MIOS is indeed in the development phase.

As per the leaked screenshot of the “About” screen, MIOS is currently working in the alpha stage of development with version v0.85.22.11.05.ALPHA. The version number indicates that it was available on November 5, 2022.

On the flip side, according to well-known tipster Kacper Skrzypek, the talk of Xiaomi working on a new operating system named MIOS needs to be corrected. He confirmed this with the following statement on his Twitter account: “No, it’s NOT true! That screenshot appeared on one of the Chinese sites in November, before MIUI 14 launch. It’s a Photoshopped image. Think logically: if they developed it, why didn’t they abandon MIUI?”.
