Android 14 May Separate Ring And Notification Volume

Google Android 12 brought radical user interface tweaks, enhanced in the Android 13 update. And we expect Android 14 to focus on performance and more customization. On March 8, 2023, Google announced its Android 14 Second Developer Preview for Pixel devices. This will let the users understand the upcoming operating system, but people are still uncovering new features and tweaks. One such finding is that Android 14 splits the ring and notification volume levels.

Plus, this feature can be helpful, as you might want to prioritize incoming calls over app notifications and set the volume higher for them. In December 2022, Google offered this functionality on the Pixel in Android 13 QPR2 but eventually removed it, bundling ringtone and notification volumes together.

Pixel users have been requesting Google to separate the two volumes for a long time, but the US tech giant never heeded their feedback. But that could happen later this year, with Android 14 offering separate volume sliders.

According to the Mishaal Rahman, many Pixel users running Android 14 DP2 are noticing that the “Ring and notification volume” sliders have suddenly split into “Ring volume” and “Notification volume” in this latest build.

Moreover, It is unclear whether this was a mistake or a deliberate change made by Google in Android 14 DP2. Since these are not API-level features, individual sliders could appear in the next Android 13 QPR3 beta and go official with the June 2023 Pixel feature drop. Otherwise, the ring and notification volume may stay together until Android 14 arrives.

Beyond the Separate Ring And Notification Volume, Android 14 brings some UI design changes and enhancements to performance, privacy, security, and user customization that Google plans to bring with its stable version.
