Google Rolling Out New Material You Contacts Widgets

Google is working on adding some new features and designs to the Contacts app to rearrange things and make the icons more attractive. In the meantime, the developers are updating parts of the app according to Google’s current design guidelines. The latest Google app to get two new Material You widgets redesign is Contacts for Android.

Google Contacts already has three shortcut widgets – Contacts, Direct Dial and Direct Message. However, they are like the Contacts app with an app icon containing the contact’s profile image. Recently, the US tech giant has been rolling out a new update for Google Contacts for Android with two new Material You widgets: Individual Contacts and Favourite Contacts.

The Individual Contacts Material You widget shows a profile picture that, when tapped, opens a full details page for that person. If you expand it, you’ll also find phone and messaging shortcuts. Now you can make calls with one click directly from the home screen. Further, you can adjust it in four ways, as you can see in the below image.

According to 9To5Google, some users are expanding the “Favorite Contacts ‘ widget to “7 of your top starred contacts” today. However, the availability of this home screen item is not widely available. However, the company will soon provide it to all the users in the coming days.

However, the update for the Google Contacts app is currently spreading slowly, and you can check to see if the app on your phone has received the update. You can install this latest release by checking the built number, which is 4.5.24.517943267, and an installation weight of approximately 27.85 MB.
