Android 14 Adds Support For Ultra HDR Photos, Material You, User Interface, And More

During the Google I/O 2023 event, the US giant didn’t take much time to talk about Android 14. However, it did share some interesting changes throughout the session, shedding some light on the features we can expect to see on Android smartphones, which include OnePlus, Realme, Nothing, and Samsung phones and tablets.

Android 14 will bring a bundle of cosmetic and performance-related changes to your device, such as a Ultra HDR photos and Material You+ design. It will come with enhancements around camera and media, privacy and security, system UI, and developer productivity.

Android 14: Ultra HDR photos:

With Android 13, Google added support for HDR video, and now it’s coming to the image in Android 14 with the Ultra label. This new function will deliver a more realistic picture thanks to a more excellent range of brightness, color, and contrast. This would be known as the “Ultra HDR” format, which is backward compatible with JPEG.

Now, the Chinese tech giant, along with Qualcomm and others, is taking steps to optimize hardware capabilities to handle this new format. In addition, Google Photos will support “Ultra HDR for display, backup, editing, sharing and downloading.”

Better privacy and security in Android 14:

With Android 14, Google is increasing privacy and security for Android users. Android users will get detailed control by giving apps partial/selective media access. In addition, the permission requires app developers to explain why and when location data is being shared with third-party companies. With the latest version of Android, users will also get ‘Data Sharing Update for Location.’ Along with this, Android users will also get the facility of partial sharing i.e., sharing of any one app or the entire screen.

Material You+ design:

On the design front, Android 14 will bring Material You+ design. Monochrome is a new theme that will have black and white colors. With increased color fidelity, the dynamic color will be more vibrant and capable of producing a more comprehensive range of colors. Apart from these changes, Materials You are also receiving a high-contrast mode theme and a medium-contrast theme.
