Google Maps Gets A Assistant Voice Typing

Google Maps is improving by introducing Assistant Voice Typing with the Pixel 6 series. Google Maps has already started to replace the excellent speech service (voice-to-text) with Assistant-powered voice typing.

According to the information earlier, while tapping on the microphone button in the search bar, a square-shaped voice-to-text window appears as a part of Google speech services.

However, this voice-to-text service has been replaced by the Google Assistant styling card, which pops up from the bottom of the screen while you tap on the microphone.

Moreover, this is the new and the fastest way to search on Google Maps; it is a very useful and helpful feature to get directions and search for places with your voice. This new pop-up also includes various built-in suggestion carousels like homes, restaurants, petrol, coffee, hotels, and more. This carousel suggestion replicates the carousel, which is below the search bar.

Built into Google’s Gboard keyboard, Assistant Voice Typing improved the existing voice-to-text system with additional smart features, such as the ability to filter out voices in the background, add emoji, and more.

Notably, the Assistant voice typing feature, which came alongside Pixel 6 series, is only available on Pixel devices. On the other hand, it was also noticed that the Google Speech Service pop-up was still functional in non-Pixel devices.

Last year, big companies like Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and mapping company TomTom formed a foundation called Overture Maps Foundation to challenge Google Maps and Apple Maps, which are the best services for maps and navigation.
