OnePlus’ Software Chief Confirms That OxygenOS Not Use Stock UI

OxygenOS 14 is a trending topic for the moment. The brand already released the public beta and now appears to be putting the final detailing touches on the major OxygenOS 14 update. Also, to fill the convenience of the users, the brand is asking for feedback from them around the world. Whereas at a glance, OxygenOS 14 is just not enough different as compared to the last version, the interface features, the same design aesthetic, and many more.

Within no time, OxygenOS becomes the choice of the users because of its plenty of custom ROMs and UI skins. However, the Browns had to move on from the stock UI behind due to its deeper integration with Oppo in 2021. Also, this led to questions among the fan community about whether they will see the return of stock UI in OxygenOS in the future. Finally, the question gets answered.

Gary Chen, who is the OnePlus Product Partnership Lead, along with Zach Lin, the Lead on the OxygenOS Product, joined the exclusive conversation with Android Central’s Harish Jonalagadda. The main topic of the interview was OxygenOS 14, based on Android 14.

Chen stated that OxygenOS and Oppo’s ColorOS are established on the same codebase. This permits the team to provide better quality and upgrades, but it is also one of the reasons for the similarities between the two skins. And this is the only reason why both the platform’s (OnePlus and Oppo) users will continue to experience a lot of similar features.

Chen also added in his statement that, as a result, OxygenOS would share the same design philosophy, Aquamorph Design, along with ColorOS, to include the vibrate color scheme. Still, it has customized design elements, including icons, widgets, wallpapers, ringtones, and AOD, just to fulfill the needs of OxygenOS users. Basically, this indicates that stock UI is not making a return to OxygenOS, at least for the accountable future.

Meanwhile, Jonalagadda stuck to the question of whether OnePlus has any plans to provide users a choice between stock UI and the new OxygenOS UI. Still, unfortunately, Chen did not reveal anything. Apart from this, both OnePlus executives discuss multiple new features, which all are coming with OxygenOS 14, Which includes Fluid Cloud, Aquamorphic Design, a new color palette, new ringtones, and notification tones.

Lin also discusses the different productivity features available on OxygenOS but stops himself from commenting on whether a desktop mode similar to Samsung’s Dex is in the plans.

Smartly, Chen and Lin did not disclose any of the specific details about OxygenOS’ foldable focused features in the lead-up to the OnePlus Open launch. Regarding this topic, they only confirmed that the company is working closely with Google to co-develop features specially meant for the foldable.
