WhatsApp Is Working On ‘Username’ For iOS

Meta is rolling out the new update on WhatsApp for iOS users. With this update, the company is offering a new feature to configure a username, so now the iOS users will get a new look and an extra option for adding their username, the same as Instagram. Check out the article for detailed information.

Version Number Details For New WhatsApp Update

WhatsApp is receiving the latest update with its identification build number, which is v23.20.1.71, so users can easily identify the update through this version number. However, for now, the update is only available for some of the lucky beta testers. Interested users can get this new update through the TestFlight beta Program.

Actually, What’s New With v23.20.1.71

WhatsApp’s latest update with the version number v23.20.1.71, brings a new feature by which, for now, iOS users are getting the ability to choose their WhatsApp username right within their profile settings. After upgrading the app with the version number mentioned above, a new option for adding a username will appear in the profile settings.

Now, on the profile settings page, the profile picture is usually placed at the center top. Below the profile, various options are placed, which include a new option named “WhatsApp Username” below the ‘Name.’

Noticeably, the usernames on WhatsApp will accept alphanumeric characters, along with a few special characters. However, it does not support discriminators, which means that usernames are unique on WhatsApp. The fact is that configuring a username is optional, and the phone number associated with an account that gets a chat underway through a username will remain constantly concealed as long as the public in the conversation does not already know each other’s phone numbers.

With usernames on WhatsApp, the company makes it possible to communicate with any other users, whether they are an individual or a business; apart from this, it also makes it easier for users to connect with a huge range of contacts. In a way, it seems like by introducing usernames, the company is enhancing privacy and security. Because with this feature, the users will be able to communicate without revealing their phone numbers. As usual, conversations initiated through usernames will surely be protected by end-to-end encryption.

However, for now, the update is in the developing stage and only available for some of the beta testers, as mentioned above. Soon, the company will roll out the update to all widely.
