Google TV is a part of Google Workspace. It offers the ability to the users by which they can find whatever they want to watch next. Browse 700,000+ movies and TV episodes from across their streaming application. Now, the brand ‘Google’ has officially confirmed a new change that will make icons even smaller and circular in design.

Google TV is a platform for streaming, but one analysis that multiple share is how the platform’s home screen minimizes application icons, along with the application being smaller than most other elements of the home screen.

This new plan for the redesign is being speculated by a developer-centric blog post on Medium, in which Google has confirmed that it will offer a redesign for the home screen of Google TV, by which the users will appear with circular application icons to all applications.

Noticeably, this new renovation of the home screen of Google TV will arrive in the first half of 2024. On behalf of this new change, the brand stated that offering circular app icons on Google TV’s “For You” tab will make it easier for users to set their favorites on the home screen as there will be more room for more applications. At the moment, Google TV has the power to show a maximum of 12 applications before pushing users to a “See All” overflow menu.

Google states that this new change will require developers to tweak their applications. This is the reason why the Google TV home screen renovation is being announced now. All of the applications will have to submit square app icons, which can make adjustments to this circular format. The company also mentioned some of the best practices and general issues in its post.

However, Google TV will still force application icons to appear in this circular format, but it might not look correct if the developer has not set things up properly. Apart from this, minimizing the size of application icons on the home screen feels like a move in the wrong direction; this seems like a net positive as it will permit the users to see extra applications at the same time.

Meanwhile, the users will still see larger banners in other parts of the UI, too, such as the “Apps” page. And it is not exactly clear yet when this new design will launch.
