POCO X6 Pro Detailed Review: A Proper Mid-range Gaming Smartphone?

POCO X6 Pro Detailed Review: Xiaomi’s sub-brand POCO has recently introduced its latest POCO X6 5G series, comprising two variants, including the POCO X6 and POCO X6 Pro. POCO’s X-series is a proper mid-range lineup, leading to the latest competition among other big brands in the tech market. However, the latest X6 series has arrived with several notable improvements in each aspect as compared to its predecessor, whether it’s display or chipset. In contrast, here you will get to know about the higher variant, the POCO X6 Pro, in which the brand has incorporated several enhancements while comparing it with last year’s POCO X5 Pro. Now, let’s dive into the complete details regarding the device and whether this mid-range has worthy features or not.

POCO X6 Pro Detailed Review

The POCO X6 Pro offers the usual specifications upgraded when compared to last year’s X5 Pro, but still, the specifications and features are all perfectly fine and worth the money, including a stunning 1.5K AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra chucked in, a massive 5,000mAh battery life with 67W turbocharge support, and to know more, here I have presented a complete detailed review about the newly-launched POCO X6 Pro.

POCO X6 Pro: Specifications

Design:

Let’s begin with the most prominent feature, the design. The POCO X6 Pro looks decent with a polycarbonate body, while the yellow variant comes with a textured design, offering it an elegant and premium look. The edges are so flat that it provides comfortable in-hand ergonomics, featuring a stunning metallic sheen, but that doesn’t help in preventing finger imprints very well in the gray variant due to its plastic panel. The back panel has a rectangular-shaped camera module with a triple camera setup and an LED flashlight with POCO branding besides the camera setup. Overall, apparently, the design looks decent and shiny.

Other than that, there’s a SIM card tray, a microphone, a USB-C charging port, and mono speakers at the bottom, while at the top of the device, there’s a noise-canceling microphone, an IR Blaster (which allows you to use the Mi Remote app in order to control your smart TV), and another speaker grill, which means that there are dual speakers. Although the speakers have crisp and clear sound quality, At the same time, there are volume rockers and power on/off buttons on the right-hand side, while there’s nothing on the left-hand side of the smartphone.

POCO X6 Pro Display:

With respect to the display, the POCO X6 Pro sports a 6.67-inch 1.5K resolution AMOLED Crystal-Res display with a 120Hz fast refresh rate and 1800 nits peak brightness. While watching video contents, I have noticed that the smartphone’s display is producing some bright and vibrant colors, making its display visuals look more precise and sharper as compared to the FHD display. With 1800 nits and HDR 10+ support, display colors are calibrated so well, which perfectly allows users to easily view their phone’s screen outdoors under the sunlight.

The bezels are super slim, offering a big and immersive viewing experience with a nice 94% screen-to-body ratio. The smartphone has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 display protection, which can easily prevent the device from getting scratches and accidental drops. A slight, significant improvement is done with switching the side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and this time, it’s under-display!

Is POCO X6 Pro Waterproof

Yes, the POCO X6 Pro does sport an IP54 rating, which makes the device a water-resistant one, meaning it can easily handle a few accidental water splashes from any and every direction.

POCO X6 Pro Build quality:

On paper, the POCO X6 Pro has a decent build quality with its body made up of shiny polycarbonate material and plastic side frames, but while holding the phone for just a few minutes, I noticed that the device is clearly a fingerprint magnet due to its glossy back panel.

In other words, the back panel of the X6 Pro will have a lot of finger imprints, which is slightly disappointing anyway. In contrast, the X6 Pro comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection that can easily protect the phone’s screen from scratches.

POCO X6 Pro Performance:

With the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra chipset, a 4nm process-based technology that is backed up by 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM type and UFS 4.0 storage type, the X6 Pro is an excellent performer. The Dimensity 8300 Ultra chip is seamlessly capable of handling every demanding task that you will throw at it. In other words, it’s an excellent gaming performer. With regards to its Antutu score, running the Antutu benchmark in the POCO X6 Pro, it scored over 14 lakh (1464228), which was an extremely good performance.

While playing Pubg Mobile on my X6 Pro, I found that I was able to play the game by selecting the HDR graphics settings with ultra frame rate; the same was the case with extreme HDR graphics settings. So, the maximum possible graphics settings are HDR with an ultra-frame rate. On the other hand, I was easily able to play the game smoothly with 90-fps graphics settings. Whereas, on the highest possible graphics, I was getting 60fps gameplay, but the gameplay was so smooth and the graphics quality was good as well.

In contrast, the Genshin Impact didn’t jerk at all with the highest graphics settings at 60 fps; also, the display quality was good and felt very quick and responsive, with no lagging issues found. Wrapping up, I noticed that no lagging issues were found in both gameplays at the highest possible graphics settings.

The POCO X6 Pro 5G comes with two memory variants, including 8GB of RAM with 256GB of internal storage and 12GB of RAM with 512GB of internal storage, respectively.

POCO X6 Pro Camera and Photography:

In terms of camera capabilities, the POCO X6 Pro has a triple rear camera setup with its camera lenses arranged in a square shape along with an LED flashlight. While capturing pictures, I noticed that the camera lenses were slightly natural-colored. The zooming capabilities were also good with OIS (optical image stabilization) support, resulting in enhanced low-light images. Additional information is provided below:

  • A 64MP main camera with OIS support
  • An 8MP ultra-wide camera
  • And a 2MP macro camera

Overall, the 64MP main camera as well as the integration of an 8MP ultra wide camera both produced nice colors while capturing images, but when zooming in, I found the images to be a little grainy, but all in all, the images were nice, having some natural color tones.

Video recording (rear camera):

  • With the rear camera of the POCO X6 Pro, I was able to capture 4K videos at 30 fps.
  • 1080p@30fps/60fps
  • And 720p@30fps

Front camera:

  • The phone features a 16MP selfie snapper that captures good selfies.

Video recording (front camera):

  • You will be able to capture 1080p at 30 fps and 60 fps at both.
  • And 720p@30fps, respectively. The front camera doesn’t support 4K recording.

POCO X6 Pro Battery and Charging Process:

The new POCO X6 Pro sports a massive 5,000mAh battery life with 67W turbo charging support. The phone doesn’t come with wireless charging support, but when noticed, you can be able to charge the device from 0% to 100% in 45 minutes, which can easily provide you with battery backup for an entire day. The battery also supports Smart Charging Engine capability, which significantly helps in optimizing your smartphone’s battery.

No doubt, since it’s a performing master, you will easily be able to get battery backup for an entire day for normal heavy usage, including gaming, on a single charge, while normal usage will definitely get your second day covered as well.

POCO X6 Pro Operating system:

The POCO X6 Pro comes with the latest Android 14-based Xiaomi HyperOS. With the inclusion of the latest Xiaomi HyperOS, you will get to see all the interesting and impressive features and enhancements, and yes, Xiaomi has done a great job. You will get the most interactive user experience with the refreshed UI.

Security and authentication:

With regards to security, instead of a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, the brand has incorporated an under-display one. Along with that, the device also comes with AI face unlock support.

Network and connectivity:

Featuring dual SIM with dual standby (5G+5G, 5G+4G), the POCO X6 Pro supports 11 5G bands, including n1/n3/n5/n7/n8/n28/n38/n40/n41/n77/n78, respectively. The wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth v5.4 support, with all the 5G bands supported in the Indian region as well.

Sensors in POCO X6 Pro:

The POCO X6 Pro comes with all the key sensors, including

  • Proximity sensor
  • 360° ambient light sensor
  • Accelerometer
  • Flicker sensor
  • Electronic Compass
  • IR Blaster
  • Gyroscope
