Can BGMI and PUBG Mobile players represent India at the Asian games in 2022?

Esports is one of the world’s fastest-growing industries, yet there appears to be a general lack of direction in India thus far.

Gaming in the nation has recently begun to expand fast. While this progress has been slower than that of the global stage, recent advances have been nothing but beneficial. In its most recent budget, the Government of India promised the establishment of a commission to promote the growth of gaming as a career and industry in the nation.

However, there appears to be a distinct disparity between what has been said and what is actually happening. According to Mr. Anurag Thakur, the country does not yet have a national esports federation. This might jeopardize the efforts of Indian e-athletes in the 2022 Asian Games.

hence, fans are asking whether BGMI and PUBG Mobile will be a thriving category in this upcoming Asian Games or not.

No confirmation from the ministry of India regarding the representation of BGMI and PUBG mobile in the 19th Asian Games

Esports will be a medal category at this year’s Asian Games. A country can win up to 24 medals if it competes and wins in all events. The games include well-known titles such as FIFA 22 as well as mobile titles such as PUBG Mobile and Arena of Valor.

Naturally, Indians have been eager to learn about the country’s preparations for the approaching Asian event. Mr. Anurag Thakur, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports responded to two queries earlier in the day.

The queries included India’s preparations for the esports category at the Asian Games 2022, as well as whether the government would provide any support.

Mr. Thakur told that they had received the admission form from the Indian Olympic Committee and had submitted it following the proper procedures. The government is aware that there will be medal categories for esports at the 2022 Asian Games.

However, if the first round of replies is any indication, there will be no cooperation. According to Mr. Thakur, the ministry assists athletes through specific National Sports Federations (NSF) in their respective fields. Unfortunately, there is currently no national-level sports federation for esports.

There was no additional discussion of whether or not such a group will be constituted. However, if India wants to flourish in esports, the establishment of a dedicated national organization should be the top priority.
