Google’s Android 13 operating system has received its second developer preview. DP2 has various new features, such as notification permissions and Bluetooth LE audio compatibility, that will be accessible to users when the Android 12 successor is officially released.
Additionally, the Android 13 operating system’s second developer beta includes a feature that notifies users if an app is consuming too much battery in the background.
Android 13 will now have a system notification feature to warn users of apps using excessive background battery usage
According to Google’s blog post by Developer Android, “Android 13 introduces a system notification that appears when your app consumes a large amount of device battery during a 24-hour period.” If the system recognizes high battery consumption from an app while the app is showcasing a notification related to a foreground service, the system holds and waits until the user chooses to dismiss the notification or the foreground service ends, and then displays the notification only if the app continues to consume a large amount of device battery.
Google has created several exceptions for applications and circumstances that need background processing. System applications and system-bound apps, companion device apps, apps operating in Demo Mode on a device, device owner apps, profile owner apps, persistent apps, VPN apps, apps with the ROLE DIALER role, and apps specifically specified in system settings to provide “unrestricted” functionality.

Google has consistently strived to enhance smartphone battery life in past generations of its Android OS. The company issued a similar warning with the introduction of Android 8 Oreo. In the case of Android 13, though, warnings are less irritating because they come just once every 24 hours.
