WhatsApp officially rolls out a horde of new voice chat features for worldwide users

WhatsApp first offered the option to send audio notes in 2013. Since its launch, there have been no significant modifications to the feature’s design or functioning. But that is about to change, as the instant messaging software has unveiled some new voice note features.

WhatsApp unveiled several new features aimed at improving the voice chatting experience in a blog post on Wednesday. These features have been in the works for some months. They originally appeared in the beta versions of WhatsApp for mobile and desktop, and are now being sent out to everyone on the stable version of WhatsApp.

Full list of new voice chat features in WhatsApp

Here is the full list of the new voice chat features in WhatsApp that were collected from WhatsApp’s blog:

  • Out of Chat Playback: Listen to a voice message outside of the chat so you can multitask or read and respond to other messages.
  • Pause/Resume Recording: When recording a voice message, you can now pause the recording and resume when ready, in case you’re interrupted or need to gather your thoughts.
  • Waveform Visualization: Shows a visual representation of the sound on the voice message to help follow the recording.
  • Draft Preview: Listen to your voice messages before sending them.
  • Remember Playback: If you pause when listening to a voice message, you can pick up where you left off when you return to the chat.
  • Fast Playback on Forwarded Messages: Play voice messages at 1.5x or 2x speeds to listen to messages faster on both regular and forwarded messages.

The option to play voice notes in the background is the most remarkable of the new features. Previously, if you left the conversation while a voice message was playing, the playback would be interrupted. When you begin playing a voice message, you may now go to another chat, exit the app, or do other things without interfering with the playback.

Another important feature is the option to preview audio messages before sending them. When you record a voice message, you’ll have the chance to listen to it before sending it. You may also pause and resume the voice recording when you’re ready. Finally, you can now listen to audio messages at 1.5x or 2x speed and stop and resume listening to a message where you left off, so you don’t have to start from the beginning.
