Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Engineering Sample Impresses in Gaming Tests

Smartphones featuring Qualcomm’s most recent Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset are hitting the market, and rumors regarding its replacement, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, are also starting to surface.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 engineering sample’s gaming prowess was showcased in a recent tweet by @faridofanani96. In the taxing mobile game Genshin Impact, an early version supposedly showed fluid gameplay for forty-five minutes, keeping a supposedly constant 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution.

Given that Genshin Impact is considered to be resource-intensive, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s potential to handle it is encouraging. Since the tested chip is still under development, it’s possible that the final version will perform even better than these, allowing Genshin Impact to run at 60 frames per second with even greater resolution.

According to reports, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s Adreno 830 GPU outperforms Apple’s M2 processor by 10% in the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test, which is particularly impressive considering the M2 is designed for larger devices like Macs.

Excitement is increased by Qualcomm’s confirmation that their 2024 smartphone chips—likely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4—will have their own unique Oryon cores. The Snapdragon X Elite PC’s Oryon CPU has demonstrated remarkable performance, indicating that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will provide a noteworthy improvement over the 8 Gen 3.

As the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 gets ready to launch, MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400 SoC will be rivaling it. Similar to the Dimensity 9300, the Dimensity 9400 is expected to feature five Cortex performance cores and three high-performance Cortex-X5 cores, without any low-power efficiency cores.

The rivalry between these chipsets promises improved capabilities and performance for upcoming smartphones, adding an intriguing dynamic to the constantly changing field of mobile processors.
