Android 14: Security & Work Profile Features For Professional And Personal Use

Android 14 is finally here! Google has officially released the stable version of Android 14 along with the Pixel 8 series. The latest operating system has arrived with a slew of amazing and impressive features, and enhancements have been made in several areas. In the series of interesting features in the latest Android 14, businesses get advanced security, compliance, and some productivity, as well as customization tools have been introduced.

With Android 14, Google has introduced more advanced security and compliance features, enhancements to the Android Work Profile, and better employee experiences in order to fulfill your business needs.

Android 14: Advanced security & compliance features:

Google has fully focused on building the most advanced and secure mobile platform for business. In contrast, the company has brought up a few security and compliance features in Android 14 to offer even better and stronger protection to your work devices. These include:

  • 6-digit PIN unlock:

Google has increased the default PIN number from 4 to 6. By just adding two digits to unlock your device increases the number of possible PIN combinations from 10,000 to a huge 1 million, reducing the potential risk of break-ins.

  • Credential manager controls:

The new credential manager controls work profiles and fully managed devices and lets admins only enable their credential managers to whom they trust. Having more control over their data, organizations can better protect sensitive and important business credentials.

  • 2G connectivity controls:

IT admins can now access their mobile connectivity as per their risk model, letting them protect their managed devices from 2G traffic interception and other 2G network vulnerabilities. In other words, IT admins can turn off 2G radio temporarily when employees are traveling to specific high-risk locations, or they can turn off 2G by default.

  • Ultra-wideband (UWB) logs:

Google has introduced new policy logs and admin controls in order to manage UWB to fulfill the current year’s National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) standards.

To navigate work & personal apps with new Work Profile Features:

For your information, businesses all around the globe use the Android Work Profile to protect company data, offer employee privacy, and help support the work-life balance. Meanwhile, the Work Profile helps businesses to safely manage devices that are used for work by making a dedicated work as well as a personal profile within a single Android device, regardless of who’s the owner. Now, with Android 14, the capability has increased more.

  • Cross-profile experience:

With Android 14, it’s easier for employees whether they want to open the links in their work profile or their profile, even in the browser, by also allowing them to view work contacts across different profiles. For example, in case your team uses Messages by Google for both work and personal use, they can now be able to view all their contacts without having to switch their profiles. Plus, admins can control which work-related apps have permission to enable this feature.

  • Quicker way of switching profiles:

In case the employees use Google apps, they will now be able to seamlessly switch between their work as well as personal profiles just by swiping sideways on their profile picture. However, this is specifically suitable for certain Google applications like Google Calendar in order to quickly check meeting schedules on the go.

  • Easier screen-sharing:

Android 14 has even made it easier to choose the particular app screen that you wish to share within the work profile. As a result, teams can avoid accidentally sharing their screen while casting a device in a conference room.

  • Setting app searches:

This feature is perfectly suitable for employees since they can now find Work Profile settings very easily, including device policies, all in one place just by searching within the settings app.

New features that will help improve employee experiences:

The latest Android 14 also brings new features in order to enhance the employee experience, from accessibility to AI-powered customizations.

  • Accessibility improvements:

Especially suitable for people with low vision, Google has added some improved magnifications, non-linear font size scaling, and a font size quick setting tile. In addition, for those who suffer hearing loss, the company has induced hearing aid improvements along with flash notifications.

  • AI-generated wallpapers:

Beginning with the latest Pixel 8 and later, employees can create their unique, AI-generated wallpapers from a quick text description.
