'Google Camera' Is Renamed Now As 'Pixel Camera'

Google Camera‘ takes stunning photos and offers HDR+ with Exposure and White Balance Controls – Take incredible photos using HDR+, especially in low-light or backlit scenes. It has been exclusive to Pixel devices for various years now, and now Google is taking a big step by renaming the Google Camera with “Pixel Camera” on the Play Store to reflect that fact better. So now, if the users want to search Google Camera on the Play Store, they have to type Pixel Camera to get the result because the name gets changed.

Also, the company explains the “Requirements‘, ‘regarding which it stated that the newest version of Pixel Camera only works on Pixel devices running Android 14 and above. On the opposite side, for Wear OS devices, the latest version of Pixel Camera only works on Wear OS 3 and above devices connected to Pixel phones. Whereas some features are not available on all devices. 

For the Pixel Fold, Tablet, and 7 Pro, v9.0 is the latest release. On the flip side, the latest Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are running on version number 9.1 and getting a patch update this evening. The brand ‘Google’ uses the listing to highlight “Pixel 8 Pro Exclusive Features” such as 50MP High Res and Pro Controls. 

In the scenario where the “Pixel Camera” brand is familiar, the company introduced it on stage at I/O 2023. It’s joined by Pixel Call Assist, Pixel Speech (Recorder), and Pixel Safe (VPN, Car Crash Detection, etc.). 

However, the brand has not disclosed the reason behind this change, but it may be that the users sometimes get confused by the name of Google Camera that this camera can also work on their smartphone. To overcome this confusion, the company named it Pixel Camera because Google make this camera only accessible for Pixel devices only.
