OnePlus 12R In-depth Review: Is This The Best Flagship Device?

Over time, OnePlus has retained its position of being the best smartphone manufacturer among all by offering smartphones with some incredible features at a much reasonable price range. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has one of the best mid-range and flagship smartphone lineup and with that, the brand has just unveiled yet another flagship smartphone series, the OnePlus 12 series that consists of two models, the OnePlus 12 and 12R, respectively. Simultaneously, the brand claims that the OnePlus 12R offers some of the best possible upgrades over its predecessor, let’s find it out through the OnePlus 12R In-depth Review mentioned below.

OnePlus claims that the OnePlus 12R comes with some interesting features and specifications that will significantly help you to cater all your needs, including bigger yet bright display, power-efficient processor, cool design, and much more. Despite coming with such amazing features, is the OnePlus 12R really worthy enough for buying? 

OnePlus 12R In Depth Review

OnePlus 12R Design: 

The first and one of the most essential aspects of a smartphone is its design. Simultaneously, the OnePlus 12R flaunts its stunning glass back design that is incorporated with an incredible yet luxurious circular-shaped camera module with the OnePlus branding etched at the center of the device. The back panel is fingerprint magnet so you will definitely notice finger imprints getting on the shiny back panel. Featuring such a premium design, the phone gives a great in-hand feel and doesn’t feel too bulky even after weighing 209gms! However, sometimes the phone feels quite slippery due to its glossy finish. 

On the flip side, coming to its metal side frame, which is made up of aluminium, has rounded edges and at the bottom, there’s a SIM card tray, a microphone, a USB Type-C charging port, and a speaker grill, while on the right side you can notice a power on/off button along with volume rockers. Coming to the top of the device, there’s an IR blaster, a noise cancelling microphone, and a speaker grill, respectively. Well, the most interesting part of the phone is that it comes with an alert slider, which is placed on the left side, which is very convenient yet easy to use. 

OnePlus 12R Display: 

The OnePlus 12R features a 6.78-inch FHD+ LTPO AMOLED ProXDR display panel with 120Hz fast refresh rate support. The display offers bright and vivid colors and with the HDR10+ and Dolby Vision technology support, I noticed that the content viewing was another-level, as while streaming movies, the display was producing brighter yet more vivid color contractions with stunning details that felt much more realistic. With the 4,500 nits of peak brightness, I was easily able to view the content outdoors on a bright sunny day. The display has a 94.2% screen-to-body ratio, which makes it quick and highly responsive. 

Speaking of the build quality and protection, the OnePlus 12R comes with premium glass back design, which is much more durable, while its display is being protected with the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. 

OnePlus 12R Performance:

With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is backed up with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM type and UFS 3.1 storage type, the 12R is a stunning performer. Being one of the most powerful chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip offers good performance as it’s driven by the most advanced Trinity Engine that significantly makes the device capable of handling the most demanding task with much ease. The performance feels so smooth and quick to me. On the flip side, speaking of the gaming experience, during heavy gaming sessions, with the graphics intensive games, including BGMI, and Call of Duty, I was getting much smoother gameplay with lag-free experience. Simultaneously, playing BGMI, I was getting 90fps gameplay with higher settings simultaneously while playing Call of Duty at higher settings, I was getting 60fps of gameplay. Also, I hadn’t noticed any heating or lagging issues, even the game loading timings were normal and as expected. 

With the inclusion of the next-gen large VC 9140mm2 vapour chamber backed up with Laval nozzle technology, the phone can easily dissipate heat evenly, ensuring a much sublime and smooth performance without any interruption. Overall, not only was multitasking excellent but also the gaming performance was stunning as I hadn’t noticed any frame drops or lagging issues while having intensive gaming sessions.  

OnePlus 12R Battery and charging:

In terms of the battery power, the OnePlus 12R comes with a gigantic 5,500mAh battery pack, which is specially built in such a way that offers you a long-lasting phone operating experience. This bigger battery is paired with a 100W ultra fast SUPERVOOC charging support, which allows the device to get charged from 1% to 100% in just 26 mins and an advanced Battery Health Engine technology that offers you an extensive hours of battery backup on heavy usage, while normal usage will get your next day covered as well just on a single charge. 

OnePlus 12R Camera performance: 

The OnePlus 12R comes with a stunning camera design having a triple rear camera setup circular-shaped module. This includes a 50MP Sony IMX890 primary camera with the OIS technology support, an 8MP ultra wide, and a 2MP macro camera, respectively. The brand has significantly upgraded the camera hardware and now it’s being incorporated with cutting-edge computational photography technology that allows you to take much realistic pictures with good color contraction and lighting adjustments. Coming to the front section, there’s a center punch-hole 16MP selfie snapper that offers some decent pictures. Overall, it can be said that the camera capabilities of the OnePlus 12R is decent, whether it’s rear cameras or the front one. 

OnePlus 12R Operating System:

The OnePlus 12R comes with Android 14-based OxygenOS 14, out of the box, which is significantly driven by the next-gen Trinity Engine that comes with a much refreshed UI, new features and enhanced elements, respectively. This helps in providing you a fast, smooth, innovative and much more interactive user experience.

Miscellaneous: 

Other distinctive features include, 3D sound support with Dolby Atmos technology. With that, coming to the connectivity features, the phone comes with dual SIM connectivity support having all the essential 5G bands supported in India, including n1/n2/n3/n5/n7/n8/n12/n20/n28/n38/n40/n41/n66/n77/n78, respectively. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth v5.3 connectivity support, NFC, GPS, and several key sensors. 

Final Verdict: 

Featuring two of the stunning color options, the Cool Blue and Iron Gray, the phone is available to you with the price beginning from Rs. 39,999, respectively. While the phone has several positives, whether it’s astonishing display, bigger battery power, performance-powered chipset, stunning design, and proficient cameras, you could consider buying the OnePlus 12R at such a decent price point. However, a few features are still missing, still the phone is designed well to cater all your needs.
