Is the Vivo X Fold3 Pro Waterproof?

Smartphone manufacturers have begun introducing their devices with water repellent properties; some come with extreme waterproofing capabilities, while others are just resistant to water. In contrast, Android phone makers carefully specify whether their phone is water-resistant or waterproof. Unlike other devices, the newest Vivo X Fold3 Pro also comes with an IP rating, but does this rating make it waterproof? Read on to learn more.

Vivo has just raised the curtains on its newest flagship foldable, the Vivo X Fold3 Pro, which has arrived with numerous impressive features and specifications, one  of which is water durability. The brand has offered a flagship-level IPX8 rating within the new X Fold3 Pro, making it highly water-resistant. Simultaneously, you would be wondering how, so here’s the explanation.

IP Rating and Water Resistance Explained

The water repellent properties are specified by an IP rating, while the IP, or Ingress Protection Rating, is a standard that is provided to the device when it’s tested against two ingresses, solid and liquid, respectively. The IP rating generally consists of two digits; the first digit is for solid ingress (0–6), which is dust or sand particles, while the second digit indicates protection against liquid components (0–8), like water. Also, the rule of an IP rating is simple: the higher the IP rating, the greater the protection.

Moreover, the IPX8 rating is considered to have higher flagship-level water resistance. Similarly, the newest Vivo X Fold3 Pro comes with an IPX8 rating, which means the first digit is not available and is X, which signifies that the X Fold3 Pro hasn’t been tested against solid ingress, while the second digit is 8, which indicates that the phone has flagship-level water resistance capabilities. This means that the phone can easily withstand water splashes. Thus, it can be said that the newly launched Vivo’s foldable X Fold3 Pro is water-resistant and not waterproof.
