YouTube Reduces Video Playback For Users Who Use Ad-Blockers

HIGHLIGHTS

  • YouTube will take all the appropriate and strict action.

YouTube is one of the most popular video streaming platforms across the internet and has over 2 billion regular active users.

While the company continues to generate a lot of profit through its videos, recently, it was noticed that this profit rate has been unknowingly decreasing due to the users who use ad-blockers.

With that, recently, YouTube has officially claimed that the company is going to crack down on ad-blockers and stated that the platform has decided to deliberately slow down the video playback for the users who are significantly preventing the ads from appearing on the platform.

However, some users who use the Firefox browser have already noticed the slow down of video playback, while others were searching YouTube’s code in order to check whether Google has targeted some specific browsers or not.

In the meantime, YouTube states that users who use ad-blockers might now have a very poor video-watching experience, irrespective of which browser they use.

In order to get rid of those annoying ads, users can get a YouTube Premium subscription instead of using an ad-blocker.

Earlier this year, YouTube announced that desktop users would no longer be permitted to use ad-blockers on YouTube.

Still, the developers of such extensions on certain browsers found a way to be detected by YouTube.

While it’s clear that YouTube is oppressing ad-blockers because these users potentially cause serious harm and loss of revenue to Google’s money chest, it’s worth noting that the ad-blockers also violate the terms and services of the platform so that YouTube will take all the appropriate and strict action.
