Android 14 QPR2 Boost Up The Speed Of System For Pixel

It was surprising when everyone witnessed the introduction of the first Android 14 QPR2 beta update by Google the previous week. Users were awestruck when they saw the installation of the latest build with a record-fast installation time. With the help of the reports collected by the Android Police founder, Artem Russakovski, the exact reason was unveiled about how Google has made such an impressive accomplishment. 

Such impressive results came out due to the number of optimizations that were made by Google within the software update technologies. In the meantime, several users, when installing the newest QPR2 update on their Pixel devices, have witnessed that the updating and installing process was more rapid than ever. Where updates used to take more than 30 minutes and sometimes about an hour to get installed, the latest update got installed within 5 minutes to 20 minutes for most of the users. 

When Artem Russakovski (@ArtemR) delved deeper into the fact, he contacted a Google Android source and found that the reason behind such rapid installation was primarily due to three significant improvements. In the meantime, the biggest contributing aspect is that newer devices have been switched to the latest LZ4 compression method instead of G4, significantly reducing installation time by 50%. 

Artem reports that these three improvements were just limited to the newer devices, including the Google Pixel 8 series, the Pixel 7 series, the Pixel tablet, and the Pixel Fold, respectively. With that, the Pixel devices, the first two optimizations, which are part of the Android Open-Source Project, are applicable for all Android devices. However, switching to LZ4 compression is just a part of Pixel’s factor, and manufacturers will decide whether they wish to implement it for the Pixel devices or not.
