With today’s tall aspect ratios of smartphones, when typing within Gboard in the landscape orientation, it takes most of the phone’s display space, leaving behind only a single line of text to be visible. Now, to avoid and permanently get rid of this awkward situation, Google has bought a new alternative.

Google has rolled out a new beta update, version 13.6, for its intuitive keyboard. This newly launched update will now allow Gboard to automatically launch its floating keyboard when the user starts typing in a landscape orientation, making it easier and more convenient to use.

As of now, by default, the Gboard launches in the center, but with this latest update, users can now drag it anywhere they want. Interestingly, Gboard will remember the location where the user has dragged it and open it exactly in the same location the next time you use it. In addition to the position, users can even adjust the size of the Gboard window by pinching its corners.

In order to return back to the regular Gboard, you can either tap on the Floating shortcut, or you can simply drag the Gboard by using its handle to the bottom corner of the screen. By following this, your Gboard will not open in the floating window mode when in the landscape. This update is a great alternative for the keyboards taking up the entire space on the phone’s display.
