Google Play Protect Will Scan Unknown Apps Before Sideloading

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Google is rolling out the latest update for Play Protect and extending its scan protections.
  • Play Protect will prompt the users to perform a real-time, code-level scan while they install an app that has never been enquired before by Google.
  • The users will get a result whenever the real-time analysis is over, whether the application is safe to install for their device or is potentially harmful.

Google is rolling out the latest update for Play Protect and extending its scan protections. To avoid detection, Google has finally found that malicious parties are looking for the far side of the Play Store to infect Android smartphones with malware.

Now whenever the users install the apps outside of Google Play, Play Protect already runs real-time checks that leverage “existing scanning intelligence,” on device machine learning, similarity comparisons, and other techniques. So now Play Protect will prompt the users to perform a real-time, code-level scan while they install an app that has never been enquired before by Google.

This scanning will tear out important signals from the app and send them to the Play Protect extremity for a code-level evaluation. The users will get a result whenever the real-time analysis is over, which lets them know whether the application is safe to install for their device or is potentially harmful which may create inconvenience to them.

Also, real-time app scanning will help in the scenario where they combat malicious polymorphic applications that change their identifiable features to avoid detection. In the statement of Google is to be believed to it stated that, Play Protect presently conducts real-time checks just to warn the users whenever it identifies or scans an application known to be malicious from previous scans or was identified as potentially harmful from Google’s on-device machine learning, similarity comparisons, and extra techniques which are always evolving.

This is being speculated, by a post shared on X formerly Twitter by @MishaalRahman which stated;

Google Play Protect is adding real-time scanning for app installation!”

The brand started rolling out this new update to all Android devices with Google Play Services, but first in India and then will stretch it to all regions in upcoming months. According to the Google System Updates changelog, this feature is available as part of the Google Play Store with its own version number which is v37.5.
