Is the Honor X9b 5G Waterproof? Here’s the IP Rating: Water Resistance Explained!

A few days ago, Honor unveiled its latest and most highly anticipated smartphone, the Honor X9b, which is considered to be the most powerful smartphone and has arrived with several interesting features and specifications. These features consist of a top-notch watch design, powerful performance, gigantic battery capacity, excellent camera capabilities, and more. Despite coming with such amazing functionalities, it’s important to note whether the device is capable of handling water splashes or not.

Every smartphone manufacturer launches their smartphones with several features and functionalities, which also include protection against accidental drops, water, or any solid component. In contrast, while purchasing a new smartphone, we usually tend to have in-depth clarification about each of its features, from its camera capabilities to its protection certifications; one such certification that’s considered by the majority is the IP certification.

Simultaneously, various smartphone brands have already begun incorporating IP ratings into their devices. According to the rule, “the higher the IP rating of the device, the higher the protection.” Likewise, the IP, or Ingress Protection Rating, is the standard level of protection that is given to the device and tested against both solid (dust) and liquid (water) ingress, respectively.

In the case of the Honor X9b, the device has received an IP53 rating, which means that the device is entirely capable of withstanding some water splashes and dust, making it a water-resistant device. This is due to the fact that the first digit following the IP rating, which is 5 in this case, indicates protection against solid ingress, which means that the device is entirely resistant to dust particles.

On the flip side, within the IP rating of the Honor X9b, the second digit is 3, which denotes the protection against liquid ingress, but 8 is considered the highest amount of protection against liquid ingress. So this makes it clear that the X9b is fully capable of handling water splashes and rain drops, but not fully immersing water. Thus, it’s proven that the Honor X9b is a water-resistant device and not waterproof.
