Is The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Waterproof?

It’s been a while now since everyone has witnessed the introduction of some brilliant foldable smartphones, and no doubt Samsung has dominated well in this field. Offering some tremendous and advanced technologies in its flagship smartphones, the brand has recently introduced its next-gen foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Flip 5, which comes with some advanced and intuitive features and intelligent technologies. Regardless of offering many impressive features, the question arises: is the Galaxy Z Fold 5 waterproof? Let’s find that out.

While Samsung was the first to test with water immersing capability, though other big brands like Google and Motorola are in the queue to bring their foldable smartphones, Samsung still holds the top position. With the introduction of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Flip 5, the brand has further presented competition among other brand’s foldable smartphones.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is no different from its predecessor but has slight design, build, and performance enhancements. Even though the smartphone sports a delicate screen, it is one of the most durable foldable smartphones.

Is the Galaxy Z Fold 5 really Waterproof and dustproof?

To those unaware, the IP ratings stand for the Ingress Protection ratings, which tell whether the device can be dust, water, or splash resistant. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes with the IPX8 ratings, while 8 in the IP ratings indicates the highest protection against liquid substances like water. According to the IEC standards, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a water-resistance smartphone that can easily survive immersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 mins. It’s probably one of the most advanced waterproof smartphones. Regardless of being waterproof, you are not advised to take the smartphone underwater, as certain chemical substances inside the water can harm your device adversely, generating a significant risk for you.

Although the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is highly water-resistant and can easily handle some submersion in water, it’s still better not to take the smartphone if you are planning to go for a swim in a pool.

On the other hand, the next trait associated with the IP ratings is dust resistance. As the Galaxy Z Fold 5 features IPX8 ratings, while the last digit in the IP ratings highlights the score for water resistance, the first digit indicates whether the device is dust/splash resistant. Since the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has “X” as its first digit, it can be seen that in the case of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, no dust resistance tests have been taken by the company. Moreover, it can’t be said that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is dustproof.
