LG Sets New Record For 6G THz Data Transmission, Achieving 500 Meter Range

Did you know that LG uses the slogan “Life’s Good!” LG Electronics, one of the most known brands in the industry, now for maintaining its legacy, is announcing the successful wireless transmission and reception of 6G THz (Terahertz) data more than 500 meters. Noticeably, this is the longest distance recorded in any 6G test conducted in an outdoor, urban area to date.

Yes, LG won the race of wireless transmission and reception of 6G THz successfully, even more than 500 meters, jointly with LG u+. The test will take place early this month at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul. Basically, the summary of the whole event is LG’s continuing leadership in 6G telecommunications research and development.

Previously, in 2022, the brand conducted its first test by sending and receiving 6G THz data wirelessly over a distance of 320 meters outdoors at the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz Institute in Berlin and Germany. LG and Fraunhofer cooperated to create core equipment for 6G transmission and reception, counting a multi-channel power amplifier and a receiver low-noise amplifier, that helped optimize performance and improve output by over 50%.

Through the latest successful test at LG Science Park, the brand has stretched the area of wireless transmission and reception distance from 320 meters to 500 meters. The new measurement for high-powered base stations in urban areas is noticeable because it verified the usability of 6G in multiple ‘real world’ communication scenarios, which includes building-to-building, building-to-ground terminal, and ground-to-ground terminals, and along with the success of this test, LG is now one cloud closer to commercializing 6G THz communication.

With the expansion of 5G and 6G telecommunications, the brand will authorize appreciably improved data rates along with ultra-low latency, high-reliability data transmission, and the merging of communications and AI. The brand also mentioned providing enhanced multimedia experience. Still, apart from this, the advanced capabilities of 6G will also be key for various of the company’s ‘future’ businesses, which include autonomous driving and mobility solutions, the metaverse, smart homes, and smart factories.

Public get ready to grab the 6G network; yes, from the discussion on the 6G network, it is expected that the brand might begin the network around 2025, alongside commercialization slated for 2029. The financing in R&D clearly indicates the strategic partnerships and successful technology to the company’s standby and strength of will to lead the global transitions to 6G.

The brand has also forged R&D partnerships for the development of 6G core technology with numerous institutes, which include Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute, the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), and Keysight Technologies.

The interesting fact is that LG is the only Korean brand to be elected chair of the Next G Alliance, a wireless technology group led by the American Telecommunications Industry Association (ATIS). It is also known that in October, the brand will share its key winnings in 6G technology development at the ‘LG 6G Tech Festa,’ and LG u+ will co-host the fest.

Dr. Kim Byoung-hoon, CTO & executive vice president of LG Electronics, stated that; “We will continue to cooperate with research institutions and tech companies, and conduct our own advanced R&D, to dominate 6G standard technology and solidify our technological leadership in this important field.”
