Google Announces Migration Tool For Podcast Shows in the US, ahead of Discontinuation of Google Podcasts

It’s been a while since Google announced that the service is shutting down its podcasts app, Google Podcasts, in September. Now, it’s been heard that Google will not discontinue Google Podcasts in the US until April 2024, while Google could also launch a migration tool.

According to YouTube’s official blog, Google will be discontinuing its podcast service, Google Podcasts, in the US until April next year. With that, the company has decided to launch a new migration tool that will allow podcast listeners residing in the US to migrate their subscriptions from the Google Podcasts application to YouTube Music. They can even export their subscriptions in order to use them in some other podcast applications.

In the meantime, in order to migrate the Podcast show subscription, users would be able to access the migration tool through a banner that’s provided at the top of the Google Podcasts app. Since Podcasts are not currently available on YouTube, with the new migration tool, podcast listeners will now be able to add their favourite shows directly to their YouTube Music library through the RSS feed of Podcasts.

Google claims that Google Podcasts will be available for listening to podcasts from March next year in the US, while those listeners who wish to migrate or export their Podcasts subscription from July next year.

In addition, over a few years, from improved listening experience and auto downloads to adding podcasts via RSS feed and better integration support, Google has been greatly investing in podcast experience across YouTube for podcast listeners on both YouTube and YouTube Music platforms.
