Realme 12 5G Review: Is The Device A Best Performer In A Budget Category?

With each passing year, people witness a slew of smartphone launches, whether they’re budget-focused, mid-range, or flagship. Usually, people have a wide range of smartphone options to choose from across several brands, while people buy smartphones that could significantly match their requirements and preferences. In a similar context, Realme has just concluded the launch of its latest budget-focused device, the Realme 12 5G, which comes with plenty of features and specs. Despite that, the most prominent question arises: Does the Realme 12 5G have the best performing capabilities?

Being within the budget-focused category, it’s quite usual that brands offer some trademark flaws, including a lack of good camera features, average performance, or much more, as it’s not possible to get all the key features with amazing performance all at the same time on a single device. In contrast, the latest realm 12, which has also arrived within the budget category, doesn’t seem to have made any compromises, from its performance to its design. However, every feature looks stunning on paper, but the reality is entirely different. In a similar context, here’s my in-depth review of the new Realme 12 5G phone, whether it has some of the best performing capabilities or not.

Realme 12 5G In-Depth Review:

Design:

To start off, the Realme 12 does sport a stunning design that looks more appealing with a perfect metallic finish. The overall design seems to be beautiful because of its shiny back; however, the phone lacks the stunning leather back panel, but it has a beautiful yet glossy back finish, which comes with a nice circular-shaped camera module placed right at the center, which offers a premium look to the device due to its premium luxury watch design. No doubt, with a glossy back panel, the phone is definitely a fingerprint magnet, as you can easily notice a lot of finger imprints on its back. Other than that, there’s a rectangle etched at the bottom left of the phone.

Coming to the ports and buttons, the phone comes with a Type-C charging port, a microphone, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a speaker grill at the bottom, while on the right side, the phone has a noise-canceling microphone and a speaker on the top. Coming to the sides, the phone has a volume rocker and a power on/off button on the right-hand side, while there’s a SIM card tray on the left-hand side. All in all, the realme 12 comes with a stunning shimmery and glossy design with metallic yet curved edges, which offers a great in-hand feel due to its light weight design.

Display:

In terms of the display, the Realme 12 features a bigger 6.72-inch FHD+ LCD display panel with a 120Hz fast refresh rate for smooth scrolling. The bigger screen meets the higher refresh rate that offers a stunning viewing experience, while the display colors look so immersive due to their 950 nits of peak brightness that seamlessly allow you to view the content in direct sunlight. On the flip side, the phone comes with a 91.4% screen-to-body ratio, which provides a smooth yet much more responsive experience. Other than that, the phone offers an immersive viewing experience, while its display also produces some stunning colors that allow you to stream your favorite movies and shows with vibrant colors and details.

Performance:

Now, the most prominent factor of the phone is its performance. The Realme 12 is powered by a powerful octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chipset. It is based on 6nm process technology, which provides efficient performance with low power consumption. This powerful processor is backed up by up to 8GB of built-in RAM along with an additional 8GB of dynamic memory, which allows you to open several apps simultaneously while keeping all the apps in its memory for quite some time. You also have the freedom to choose up to 128GB of internal storage, which offers you the flexibility to keep all your photos, videos, files, documents, and even games without having to worry about the storage.

Apart from this, the Dimensity 6100+ chipset is capable of handling demanding tasks like heavy multitasking and intense gaming sessions that you throw at it. You can get a seamless multitasking experience, while on the flip side, during my gaming sessions, I was easily able to play certain games like COD Mobile and BGMI by selecting medium graphics settings, and there were no such frame drops or lagging issues experienced. I noticed that I was able to play the games smoothly without having any heating issues, as the device is capable of controlling temperatures as well. In my opinion, during the test, I found that the phone performed well during both the multitasking and gaming sessions.

Battery capacity and charging:

With the massive 5,000mAh battery life and the 45W fast charging with SUPERVOOOC charging technology support, the phone can be quickly charged from 1–50% in just 30 minutes. So, the battery power allows you to stream your favorite entertainment, from watching YouTube videos to streaming your favorite movies, while also having plenty of power left for the remaining day. In other words, you can get going for an entire day with heavy usage, while normal usage can get your next day covered as well.

Camera performance:

Speaking of the camera capabilities, the Realme 12 comes with a stunning dual camera setup with the camera lenses arranged in an amazing round-shaped camera module. The primary camera consists of a 108 MP lens and a 2 MP portrait camera. I basically found that the camera was able to capture some decent pictures with all the details along with much more accuracy and colors, however, the phone lacks vibrancy and details in bright light, while the color exposure of the pictures is only decent and is not as good as it could be. On the flip side, the front section holds an 8MP selfie snapper, which allows you to capture some amazing selfies by enhancing them a little bit so that the pictures look nice at the end. Overall, the camera experience was decent. In addition, you will be able to record videos with up to 1080p@30fps, and 720p@30fps, respectively.

IP certification:

Yes, the realme 12 comes with an IP54 rating, which makes a dust and water resistant phone and is designed to only be able to handle fine dust particles and splashes of water. There are no such waterproof capabilities, so don’t try to submerge the phone in water, as it can harm the internal components of the device.

Operating System:

Out of the box, the realme 12 has arrived with Android 14-based realme UI 5.0, which means you will be able to get all the new and latest features and enhancements that will arrive with the coming updates. This will allow the UI to refresh so that you can have a better and intuitive user experience.

Network and connectivity:

With regards to the network and connectivity, the realme 12 comes with Wi-Fi 5 connectivity and Bluetooth v5.2 connectivity support. Also, it has the several essential 5G band support that are in India as well.

Realme 12 5G: is the device a best performer in a budget category?

The latest realme 12 comes with several features and specs within the budget category, including its astonishing display, decent camera performance, reliable and long-lasting battery battery power with fast charging support, powerful performing processor, and shimmery yet premium design. No doubt, with a few negatives, there are plenty of positives as well. Well, giving the positives a much more preference, you should consider buying if you are looking for a great performer within a budget-focused segment that doesn’t make a hole in your pocket.
