WhatsApp’s App Lock is a security feature that hides all users’ messages while asking for biometric authentication before showing the conversation page. Meanwhile, WhatsApp is now rolling out support for face unlock for Pixel 8 and 8 Pro users, while earlier, users were only able to unlock their WhatsApp by using either their fingerprint or PIN.
With this latest face unlock support, Pixel 8 and 8 Pro users will notice that while opening WhatsApp, they will now see the system face unlock page at the bottom of the screen. At the same time, you will also notice a small ring around the selfie camera.
Also, if the user’s face is not visible in the camera lens, the system will take back users to use other authentication methods like fingerprints after a few seconds. Conversely, Google credited the Tensor G3 chip and advanced ML algorithms for making face unlock support possible on WhatsApp. This new face unlocks support on WhatsApp for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro is being rolled out with the latest 2.24.8.85 (stable) version of WhatsApp on Android.
