OPPO Reno 2 receiving February 2021 security patch and become the first phone

August 2019, OPPO launched Reno 2 series smartphone in India. The smartphone was launched in three variants, namely Reno 2, Reno 2Z, and Reno 2F. The three smartphones have differences lying mainly in the camera setup, display quality, and processors. And the smartphone runs Android 9 Pie with Oppo’s ColorOS 6 out of the box. The Reno 2 runs the Snapdragon 730G chipset from Qualcomm that is designed for gaming.

In December 2019 OPPO launched Android 10-based ColorOS 7 skin Globally, and the smartphone has already received the update last year, and it’s also eligible for ColorOS 11 update which is based on Android 11. The company will provide early access beta of ColorOS 11 in February or March 2021.

When buying a new smartphone, a theme that is certainly close to the heart is that of updates by the brand as well as those related to the safety of the device through an injection of patches released by Google itself. Among the brands that are providing evidence of attention to this theme, we find OPPO which recently provided for the release of an update relating to its glorious Reno 2, effectively updating the security patches in February 2021, even before the Google Pixel series smartphones.

Oppo Reno 2 is, in fact, the first smartphone to receive the February 2021 patches, becoming the reference point for monthly updates on tech security. The update is already available in India and can be downloaded via OTA, which if you have not yet received it, you can try to force by manually searching for the update through the appropriate section in the update menu.

Unfortunately, the version of the operating system remains unchanged, anchoring to ColorOS 7.1 based on Android 10. Furthermore, the changelog does not report any other mention of particular changes and/or additions, except for the security patches of February 2021. The international version of the firmware is the CPH1907EX_11_C.45 and will continue to reach the Oppo Reno 2 marketed on the Indian market.
