Google Maps rolls out a massive update including toll road prices, traffic signals, and other iOS integrations

Google Maps is rolling out an update today that will include toll road rates as well as more map features such as stoplights and stop signs. In addition, the business is making iOS upgrades, such as a new pinned trip widget and the ability to receive directions on Google Maps directly from your Apple Watch.

A detailed list of new features and iOS integration of Google Maps in the latest update

The firm claims it’s adding toll prices to Google Maps for the first time to help people decide whether to take toll roads or ordinary highways. Before they begin navigating, users will see the expected toll fee to their location. The local tolling authority will set the toll prices. Google will use several pieces of information for showing the projected toll price of a trip when calculating the estimated toll charge. It will look at the cost of using a toll pass or other payment methods and also depending on the day and the price will also depend on what time of the day one is crossing it.

Users will still be able to avoid seeing routes with toll roads entirely using the app’s settings, according to Google. This month, users on Android and iOS will be able to check toll road costs for approximately 2,000 toll roads in the United States, India, Japan, and Indonesia. Google intends to add more nations to this list in the near future.

Google is also improving the app’s navigating experience by adding traffic signals and stop signs to make driving on unknown roads less stressful. Users will also notice improved features such as building outlines and places of interest.

In some places, viewers will be able to see even more information, such as the shape and breadth of a road, as well as medians and islands. In the following weeks, the updated navigation map will be available in certain countries for Android, iOS, Android Auto, and CarPlay.

The company is also releasing new iOS improvements to make it simpler to utilize Google Maps while on the go. Google is releasing a new pinned trip widget that allows you to view journeys pinned in your Go Tab directly from your iOS home screen. You may check your arrival time, the next departure for your transport trip, and a route suggestion if you’re driving. Google is also shrinking the size of the existing Google Maps search widget.

Google has also revealed that people will soon be able to obtain directions directly from their Apple Watch using Google Maps. Soon, you won’t have to start your navigation from your iPhone. You’ll be able to start navigation on your Apple Watch by tapping on the Google Maps shortcut in the Apple Watch app. The new features will be available in a few weeks. You can also add the “Take me home” shortcut to your watch and then hit it to start navigation to your house.

Finally, Google Maps is now integrated into iOS Spotlight, Siri, and the Shortcuts app. To access Google Maps, say “Hey Siri, find directions in Google Maps” or “Hey Siri, search in Google Maps.” Users will begin to notice.
