WhatsApp is the only platform of Meta that is far away from advertisements (ads), and now recent reports are indicating that the platform may introduce ads in the Status feature. In this article, we are discussing how much truth is there in this report. Let’s get started.

It is rumored that WhatsApp may introduce ads in the Status feature. And this is being speculated because in a recent sit-down interview with a Brazilian publication, WhatsApp’s head, Will Cathcart, revealed the ad-related intentions of the platform. Cathcart disclosed that WhatsApp will not show ads in the chat box, but there is a high chance they might pop up in different locations, such as Status or Channels.

Also, the reports indicate that during an interview, Cathcart stated;

There could be ads in other places – Channels or status. For example, channels might charge people to subscribe, they might be exclusive to paid members, or the owners might promote the channel. But, no, we won’t put ads in our inbox.”

So, by this statement, it is clear that WhatsApp will not show ads in the inbox area. However, there’s a high probability of appearing in channels or status. It appears that once the ads start popping up in Channels, then the owners of channels might ask the users to pay the charge to subscribe and get an ad-free experience.

However, there were allegations made in a Financial Times report, which were suggesting WhatsApp’s potential placement of ads on the chat screen. So, regarding this report, Will Cathcart shared a post on X, formerly Twitter, and stated that.

This @FT story is false. We aren’t doing this.”
