It’s been a while since Google introduced its next and latest series, the Pixel 8 series, which comprises two models, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Both devices come with several impressive specs and features, especially their stunning camera capabilities and more. With that, Google has officially confirmed that the Pixel 8 will not be getting the Gemini Nano due to some hardware limitations.
The Google Pixel 8 will not get the company’s latest AI model, the Gemini Nano, while the company just revealed through the latest episode of the Android Show on the Android Developers channel on YouTube that, due to some hardware limitations, the details of the hardware limitations haven’t been revealed. Google clarified that it plans to soon extend the functionalities of the latest AI model to more of its higher devices since the Pixel 8 will not be incorporated with the Gemini Nano.
One possible reason behind not providing the Gemini Nano AI model to the Google Pixel 8 is due to its low RAM capacity, as there is a single noticeable difference between the RAM capacities of the Pixel 8 and the 8 Pro. The Pixel 8 comes with 8GB of RAM, while the Pixel 8 Pro has 12GB of RAM. Having sufficient RAM is crucial for running Gemini Nano smoothly.
Not only the hardware limitations, but Google believes that incorporating the high-end AI model, the Gemini Nano, into the Pixel 8 may have a negative impact on the overall performance and user experience.
On the flip side, Google is also working to expand the Gemini Nano to other high-level devices, and with that, recently, MediaTek, the great chip manufacturer, has joined hands with Google in order to optimize the Gemini Nano for the devices that are equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 and 8300 chipsets, respectively.
In addition, the new Gemini Nano AI model within the Google Pixel 8 Pro brings several exclusive yet impressive AI-powered functionalities and capabilities, including the Summarize feature in the Recorder app, the Smart Reply feature in Gboard, Timelapse mode’s Night Sight feature, better and enhanced Photo Unblur, Video Boost, and improved portrait lighting.
