Samsung has locked itself up to become the best Android manufacturer across the global market. There could be a number of reasons behind that, but the most prominent reason is that Samsung is offering long-term software update support for its Galaxy phones, which is highly impressive and has been significantly appreciated by all. As with the constantly evolving trend of offering long-term software update support among several smartphone manufacturers, Samsung has been leading from the front in providing the long-term software update support of four years to all its eligible Galaxy models.
The great Korean brand will now be treating all the eligible Galaxy models to a long four OS updates and a massive five years of security patch updates. In contrast, earlier, Samsung’s devices were bound to receive 2–3 major OS updates, including its mid-range and flagship series. But soon after the arrival of its premium flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S21 lineup in 2021, Samsung significantly upgraded its software update policy and has performed some major changes, which proved to be helpful indeed, as it helped Galaxy models to increase their lifespan significantly for an additional year or two.
According to the new and upgraded software update policy, Samsung’s Galaxy models are committed to 4 generations of major OS updates and 5 years of security patch updates, which significantly include Samsung’s S series (excluding the latest S24 lineup, which is committed for a much longer update) and the Galaxy Z lineup, with fewer budget-focused Galaxy models, including its A/M/F series, respectively. Hence, Samsung’s latest software update policy says that all the eligible Galaxy models are bound to receive 4 generations of major OS updates along with 5 years of security patches, respectively.

In contrast, Samsung has launched its latest One UI 6, which is significantly based on the latest Android 14. While, out of the box, the new Android 15 is on its way, as Google has already shown off the first developer preview, it’s expected that Google is soon going to introduce its next Android operating system, Android 15, in the form of a public beta. With that, Samsung will also release its next One UI skin, the One UI 7, which will be based on the upcoming Android 15.
