Google Messages is the key unit of Google Workspace. Now, it is receiving a new support named “Ultra HDR images in RCS chats” to enhance the users’ experience.
Google, without any notification, silently added support for Android’s new Ultra HDR image Format in Google Messages while sending messages over RCS. Photos in this format, whenever sent over the RCS, now will maintain their metadata and will show exactly on the receiving device.
Google has recently introduced the Android 14 major OS update, which includes the Ultra HDR Image Format. However, this format seems to be an essential variation of the venerable JPEG and works by encoding a logarithmic range gain map image in the metadata. It also has an HDR display.
The users will see an image that will be displayed on their device that has the ability to read this metadata and has an HDR display. The image will appear in a huge dynamic range, along with brighter highlights and greater shadow details.
However, Pixel 8 series devices are the first Android devices that get the power to capture images in this format. Meanwhile, the older Pixel devices don’t have the ability to capture them yet; they can still display these images as intended.
Recent reports indicate that Apple has decided to adopt the RCS standard, with Google and Nothing promptly commenting on the choice of the Cupertino giant.
