How Many Software Updates Will Sony Xperia 1 V and 5 V Get?

In this Android ecosystem, Sony manufactures some of the most expensive phones, as they are loaded with some of the highest-end features, especially its Xperia series. Although Xperia is its flagship lineup, including the Sony Xperia 1 V and 5 V, respectively, which come with a hefty price point due to their extensive features, nevertheless, it’s essential that people be aware of how many software updates the Xperia 1 V and 5 V will get. Especially when you are paying a nice, hefty price.

Sony Xperia 1 V and 5 V Software Update Policy

Similar to other Android manufacturers on the market, Sony does consider its software update policy before providing software updates to its devices. However, earlier, Sony’s majority of its phones were committed to receiving two software updates and two years of security updates. With that, Sony has now made minor changes to its software update policy with its latest flagships, including the Sony Xperia 1 V and 5 V, which are promised to receive 2 software updates and 3 years of security patch updates, respectively.

Well, the flagships, the Sony Xperia 1 V and 5 V, have been significantly launched with Android 13 out of the box and will receive their two software updates until Android 15, while both devices have already received their first major OS update in the form of Android 14. On the other hand, the Xperia 1 V and 5 V will get their security patch updates until 2026. 

In addition, Sony’s software update commitment is too small, while other brands have been significantly on the road of providing the best possible upgrades to their devices so that the phones could have a longer shelf life, probably more than expected. In contrast, it’s expected that Sony should consider this factor and could eventually change its software update policy.
