Apple A17 Pro Vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: Battle Of The Chipsets

With the arrival of Apple’s newest iPhone 15 Pro, probably the first iPhone to feature an aerospace-grade Titanium design, the Pro models are lighter than ever. Inevitably, there are certain exciting features and concepts regarding the Apple A17 Pro bionic chip. It is considered the biggest performance monster. But it’s interesting to know if the A17 Pro Bionic chip beats the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset regarding the performance. Let’s find out.

Before comparing two of the best chipsets, it’s worth noting that Apple doesn’t pack its powerful chipset, the A17 Pro, in every model. Instead, it’s exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. However, the other iPhone variants, including the iPhone 15 and the Plus models, have the previously used A16 Bionic chip.

Apple’s GPUs get their most extensive redesign yet with the introduction of the Apple A17 Pro. The brand claims the A17 Pro is the best in its class and features new iPhone chips that deliver the best graphics performance ever. This will provide a unique and intense experience while playing the game and create an incredible environment with more realistic characters. Featuring industry-leading speed and performance, the A17 Pro provides users with a next-level experience. Other comprehensive features of the A17 Pro include up to 20% faster GPU now with 6 cores, and its GPU is up to 70% faster than the GPU in iPhone 12. Interestingly, the A17 Pro offers a 2x faster Neural Engine, which Can work seamlessly, performing about 35 trillion tasks per second using 16 cores.

While talking about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, it features more power-efficient and dynamic cores, hardware ray-tracing GPU, and has a 20% performance boost as compared to last year. While the A17 Pro chip features the Hardware ray-tracing function for the first time, Samsung’s Exynos 2200 and the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 also support the Hardware ray-tracing feature.

Now, the TSMC notes that it offers a 35% boost in energy efficiency, an increase in battery life, and a 60% increase in logic density. On the other hand, the Snapdragon notes a performance boost of 18%. Apple has selected the middle-ground reach, allowing it to benefit from both in terms of performance boost and increase in battery life.

Regarding connectivity, Apple offers Bluetooth 5.3, similar to the Snapdragon X70 5G modem. However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 holds the top position by providing an 8K video recording facility and certain options for lossless audio.

So, with some notable features, the Apple A17 Pro sports several new features and is more power efficient, which will help to bring more exciting features to the upcoming generations of iPhone devices. Similarly, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 also holds several impressive features. It is highly expected that Apple will extend its features and can lead beyond the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
